Meet the School Counseling Staff

Mrs. Adams grew up in Fullerton, California. While attending Mater Dei High School, she played volleyball both at school and for a club volleyball team. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from San Diego State University. After earning her Bachelor's degree, she attended Chapman University and earned her M.A. in School Counseling and PPS Credential. After graduating from Chapman, she was hired in Irvine Unified School District at University High School as a School Counselor. She worked at UHS for 9 years before getting hired at Troy this year. In her free time, Mrs. Adams enjoys spending time with family, going to the gym, snowboarding in the winter, and being at the lake in the summer.

Ms. Black joined Troy High School in 2019 and currently serves as one of the school's Guidance Technicians. She has been with the Fullerton Joint Union High School District since 2004 and has held roles in the library, ASB, as well as counseling. Ms. Black earned a B.A. in History from California State University, Fullerton and enjoys reading, theater, and spending time with her two children.

Mrs. Gutierrez grew up in South Gate, California, where she attended and then later worked at South Gate High School.  While in high school, she was involved in Play Production and Journalism.  After high school, she attended CSULA and earned a B.A. in English.  Her first teaching position was at Downey Unified School District as an ELD teacher.  In her second year of teaching, she returned to South Gate High School to teach English, ELD, and theater electives. She spent 12 years teaching before moving into a school counseling role at the same school. Mrs. Gutierrez earned her M.A. in Education and PPS credential from National University.  For the past 8 years, she served as a school counselor with LAUSD before joining FJUHSD to be the EL Family Liaison at Troy HS, La Vista/La Sierra HS as well as Buena Park HS.  She is happy to be a full time counselor at Troy HS.  Outside of school, Mrs. Gutierrez enjoys a full and active family life. She and her husband are proud parents of two younger boys who keep them busy and joyful, especially with their involvement in sports. She loves cheering them on from the sidelines, spending quality time with her family and friends, hiking in the great outdoors, and catching a good movie whenever she can. 

Mrs. Evans was born and raised in Anaheim, CA. She was a leader in ASB and Colorguard/Dance at Loara High School where she graduated. Her first summer job was at Baskin-Robbins (31 Flavors). She began her college education at Cypress Community College for Court Reporting while waitressing. She worked at a law firm, her family's construction company, California Pizza Kitchen and then Marriott International. It was at that time she went back to school to earn her B.S, in Organizational Leadership at Pacific Christian College (now Hope International University). After many years working in sales and marketing in hospitality she was called to her second career in education. While earning her master’s degree in Educational Counseling and PPS credential at Azusa Pacific, she was hired at Troy as a Special Education Aide and later as a Special Education Teacher.  After her school counseling internship through the El Monte School District, she joyfully accepted a position as one of Troy's School Counselors. When she is not enjoying her students, Mrs. Evans is spending time with family, loving on her grandkids, riding her bicycle and traveling.

Ms. Murillo attended Valencia High School before continuing her education at Fullerton College, where she earned multiple associate degrees. She then transferred to UCLA, earning her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Education. She later attended the University of La Verne, where she completed her Master’s degree in Educational Counseling, along with her PPS Credential and a concentration in Higher Education. Throughout her career, Aide has had the opportunity to work with various high schools in the Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD), community colleges, and nonprofit organizations throughout Orange County. She is passionate about supporting students and helping them navigate their educational and college pathways. In her free time, Aide enjoys spending time with her dog and family.

Mrs. Saleen grew up in Santa Ana, California.  While attending Century High School, she was a cheerleader and involved in environmental clubs. She then attended the University of Oregon where she earned her B.A. in Sociology.  After graduating she worked in youth programming at the U.S. Naval base in Bahrain and then in the San Diego area.  In 2000, she returned to the area to work for a youth development program at the Orange County Department of Education.  In 2006, she earned her master’s degree in School Counseling as well as her Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB).  After graduating from CSULB, she worked at an alternative high school in the Paramount Unified School District. In 2007, she was hired at Troy and never looked back! Mrs. Saleen enjoys time with her family and friends, watching her daughter play softball, Oregon Ducks football, working out and hot yoga.

Mrs. Carrie Slick grew up mostly in Covina, then moved to Mission Viejo in high school. She graduated from Capistrano Valley High School where she obtained her ROP certificate in School-Aged Childcare. She went on to work in after-school programs and with teens with special needs, while attending several community colleges in Southern California. She finally finished her A.A. in Psychology at Fullerton College and transferred to California State University, Fullerton to earn her B.A. in Psychology. She completed her M.A. in Social Work at Azusa Pacific University. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and has been providing mental health support to high school students for 9+ years. She is currently working on her Expressive Arts Therapist credential and loves art, music and theater. In her free time, she likes to go camping with her family and go to concerts.

Mr. Varieur grew up in Torrance, California. As a high school student, he was a CSF Sealbearer, member of the National Honor Society, delegate to California Boys State, and part-time Fry Guy at In-N-Out Burger. He earned his B.A. in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations and a minor in English Literature from California State University at Fullerton, graduating cum laude and serving as a member of the student-led team that re-established the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) chapter on campus. After college, he began a career in the music publishing industry, eventually overseeing media and artist relations; managing contracts, business affairs, and intellectual property; and serving as a liaison to international clients. In 2021, Mr. Varieur earned his M.A. in School Counseling and PPS credential from Azusa Pacific University. During the unique 20-21 hybrid school year, he worked as an Academic Intervention Specialist in the ABC School District and served as a counseling intern at Troy before officially joining the Troy Counseling Team. Mr. Varieur enjoys ice hockey (Go Kings Go!), live music, and playing guitar.
